Abstract This paper aims to briefly determine the causes of the occurrence of the sliding, the slope stability analyses, physical and mechanical characteristics of soils and rock stabilization of the slides across the road. This investigation includes laboratory and in-situ tests for preparation of the geological maps of the landslides; Previous works made by different Albanian authors and works made by "A.L.T.E.A & Geostudio 2000" company. We will give you information for: -geology of slide area, -hydro geological conditions, – no continuity of rocks in different directions etc. This case study gives us a better and improved method of obtaining necessary data for landslide monitoring in comparison on other works done by our company and obviously taking the necessary precautions to prevent them or to minimize their consequences. 1. Introduction 1.1 Albanian geographical location and infrastructure development Albania officially known as the Republic of Albania is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south and southeast. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the west and on the Ionian Sea to the southwest. Albania is a member of the UN, NATO, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Council of Europe, World Trade Organization, and is one of the founding members of the Union for the Mediterranean. Albania has been a potential candidate for accession to the European Union since January 2003 and it formally applied for EU membership on 28 April 2009. Albania has seen extensive growth for the past years with many infrastructure projects in the construction industry. Current technology affords many ground improvement techniques to suit a variety of soil conditions, structure type and performance criteria. The objective of this investigation is to determine the Causes of landslide, stability analysis of the slope, physical and mechanical characteristics of soils and rock mass and stabilization of the slope. In this paper will be shown a general geological situation, and the factors that have brought to the sliding of the slope and results of monitoring.
Abstract The highway Durres- Prishtina is very important for Albania and Kosovo, because this highway connect Albania with Kosovo and Europe countries. In this paper would like to present our study about unstable rock slopes, where will evidence the geological and geodynamic phenomena's which can happened in above mentioned zones. Also want present the hydrological and geotechnical studies, kind of discontinuities and fissures, the mechanical and physical characteristics of the rock etc. 1. Introduction Albania is mountainous country (2/3 of their territory are mountains and hills). One of very dangerous phenomena's, which every year brings considerable damages (in individual's and country's economy) is the sliding phenomena's. Especially in road's infrastructure sliding phenomena's are frequent, dangerous and accompanied with big expenses to secure normal functioning of roads and their security. In last year's, in Albania, many roads, bridges and tunnels are constructed. The roads system has made possible connection of Albania with their neighbor countries and other away countries. One of this artery is highway "Rruga e Kombit", which made possible connection between Albania and Kosovo. Also this highway makes possible connection (through Albania territory) of 8 European corridor (east-west, which connect Europe with Asia) by 10 European corridor (north-south, which connect Central Europe with Greece). The highway Durres-Prishtina passes through fields (segment Durres- Milot), through mountains (segment Milot- Morina) and through fields and hills territories (segment Morina- Prishtina). In the second segment a part of the highway passes along the deep valley of Fan's river and in some zones near unstable rock slopes (fig. 2). Our study, presented in this paper, consist in:determination of the geological and geodynamic phenomena's in these zones, particular geological and hydrological investigation, study of the kind of the fractures, determination of the physical and mechanical rock's characteristics, mapping of the unstable rock zones, calculation of the safety factor for the rock slopes and recommendation of the engineering measures to secure slope stability. Finally we have taken some conclusions which can be serve and for the other similar cases.
