The majority of offshore fields have been developed with conventional fixed steel platforms. One common feature of fixed steel structures is that it is essentially "fixed" (i.e., it acts as a cantilever fixed at the seabed). This forces the natural period to be less than that of the damaging significant wave energy, which lies in the 8- to 20-second band. As the water depth increases, these structures begin to become more flexible, and the natural period increases and approaches that of the waves. The consequence of this is the structure becomes dynamically responsive, and fatigue becomes a paramount consideration.
This paper summarizes a technology using SMP to provide downhole sand control in openhole environments. With multistage operations becoming the industry norm, operators need easily deployable diversion technologies that will protect previously stimulated perforations and enable addition of new ones. This paper reviews several aspects of the use of in-stage diversion. Development of a new polymer composite that degrades via hydrolysis in hot water or brine holds potential for use in structural applications for intervention-less downhole tools. The polymer-injection project in the Dalia field, one of the main fields of Block 17 in deepwater Angola, represents a world first for both surface and subsurface aspects.
Polymer flooding in sensitive areas can require the transport of polymer fluids over long distances. Conventional wisdom limits transport distance or degradation occurs. This paper argues that critical velocity, not distance, is the controlling factor. Polymer flooding has been used to enhance the production of oil from mature fields in Oman. This article discusses the trial of several approaches to improve the treatment of water produced from these fields.

This paper studies the technical and economic viability of this EOR technique in Eagle Ford shale reservoirs using natural gas injection, generally after some period of primary depletion, typically through long, hydraulically fractured horizontal-reach wells. Conventional oil and gas discovered resources in 2019 are on pace to rise 30% from last year and reach their highest level since the beginning of the industry downturn. Africa (Sub-Sahara) Eni discovered gas and condensate in the Nkala Marine prospect offshore Congo. The discovery could hold from 250 MMBOE to 350 million MMBOE in place, the company said. In a production test, the Nkala Marine 1 discovery well in the Marine XII block yielded more than 10 MMcf/D of gas and condensate. Eni is the operator with a 65% interest in the block. The remaining shares are held by New Age (25%) and Societé Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC) (10%). Sonangol and Total will break ground on a deepwater oil pumping project that will increase Angola's production by more than 30,000 B/D.
Africa (Sub-Sahara) Eni started production from the West Hub development project's Mpungi field in Block 15/06 offshore Angola. The startup follows the project's first oil from the Sangos field in November 2014 and the Cinguvu field last April. Mpungi will ramp up West Hub oil production to 100,000 B/D in the first quarter from a previous level of 60,000 B/D. The project also includes the future development of the Mpungi North, Ochigufu, and Vandumbu fields. Eni is the block operator with a 36.84% stake. Sonangol (36.84%) and SSI Fifteen (26.32%) hold the other stakes.
Africa (Sub-Sahara) Eni has begun production from the Vandumbu field and made a new oil discovery in the Afoxé exploration prospect in Block 15/06 offshore Angola. First oil from the Vandumbu field, through the N'Goma floating production, storage, and offloading vessel, was achieved in late November, 3 months ahead of schedule. Vandumbu is approximately 350 km northwest of Luanda and 130 km west of Soyo. This, along with the startup of a subsea multiphase boosting system in early December, boosts oil production from Block 15/06 by 20,000 B/D. The rampup of Vandumbu is expected to be completed in 1Q 2019. Block 15/06 is being developed by a joint venture formed by Eni (36.84%, operator), Sonangol (36.84%), and SSI Fifteen (26.32%). Asia Pacific Ophir Energy's Paus Biru-1 exploration well in the Sampang production-sharing contract (PSC) offshore Indonesia has resulted in a gas discovery.
