Fields in the Upper Assam-Arakan Basin have been studied intensely to find prospective sweet spots, perforation intervals for new wells, and potential workover candidates. These forecasts, guided only by dynamic-numerical-model results, have had mixed results when implemented in the field. In this paper, an integrated work flow is proposed for brownfields where oil production is driven mainly by water injection. Produced-water salinity plays a key role, acting as a natural tracer and, thus, helping avoid additional costs for new data acquisition. Is Industry Ready for Brownfields’ Prime Time?
This paper summarizes a technology using SMP to provide downhole sand control in openhole environments. With multistage operations becoming the industry norm, operators need easily deployable diversion technologies that will protect previously stimulated perforations and enable addition of new ones. This paper reviews several aspects of the use of in-stage diversion. Development of a new polymer composite that degrades via hydrolysis in hot water or brine holds potential for use in structural applications for intervention-less downhole tools. The polymer-injection project in the Dalia field, one of the main fields of Block 17 in deepwater Angola, represents a world first for both surface and subsurface aspects.

Coal remains the biggest challenge to LNG in Asia. This paper discusses how demand for LNG has affected shipping routes as well as trade issues between the suppliers and importers of natural gas. DNV estimates that gas will be the world’s primary energy source by the mid-2020s. Growth in LNG capacity is expected as the midstream sector invests in connecting shifting sources of gas with changing demand centers. Other factors also will drive the globalization of gas trading markets.
Decommissioning and abandonment comes with its share of unexpected surprises, but many of those surprises could be avoided merely through better planning and care. The next big wave of decommissioning and abandonment projects is set to occur in the Asia-Pacific region, and APAC’s operators are now tasked with finding cost- and time-effective ways of unwinding their huge agglomeration of wells and facilities. The outlook in the UK is a case study of the squeeze facing E&P in other basins where operators are trying to pay to sustain production with discoveries, while plugging and abandoning old wells, all paid for by the lean cash flow due to low oil prices. From its record high in 2014, purchases of subsea equipment and SURF fell around 50% until reaching a low in 2018. New data suggest that the subsea market will be a top-performing oilfield service segment.
