The joint oil field had been offline since 2015, due to an operational dispute. The First Eocene is a multibillion-barrel heavy-oil carbonate reservoir in the Wafra field, located in the Partitioned Zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. After more than 60 years of primary production, expected recovery is low and provides a good target for enhanced-oil-recovery processes.
The LNG will come from the offshore Qatargas 4 project in the North Field, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and Shell. After 4-1/2 years out of service, the massive Wafra oil field in the Saudi-Kuwaiti Onshore Partitioned Neutral Zone, is set to resume production sometime soon and ensuring a smooth restart is no small order.

McDermott will work exclusively with Zamil Offshore to provide Saudi Aramco with maintenance, modifications and operations services. Megaprojects have come to define many of the world’s new resource projects but they are also a testament to the awesome engineering capabilities of the oil and gas industry. Find out who took home this year’s honors. A demonstration project of carbon capture, utilization, and storage through enhanced oil recovery was conducted in Saudi Arabia.
CB&I Storage Solutions joins a list of contractors working on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. McDermott’s restructuring comes 5 months after it filed for Chapter 11 protection. The company was struggling with debt since its 2018 acquisition of CB&I. McDermott’s completion comes 19 months after it was first awarded. SapuraOMV achieved first production from the Larak gas field in January.
For the offshore sector, the collapse in oil demand and prices came just as the market was beginning to look up. Now many companies are focused on survival. This article discusses how various market segments, regions, and companies are faring in “the new reality.” US shale operators are cutting deeper, with some eliminating drilling and completions activity altogether. Oil prices got bad fast, so when will they get better?
Several well-stimulation products and techniques have been seen to benefit well productivity from recent field trials and implementations in carbonate reservoirs, including simpler acid fluid systems, integrated work flows, and coiled-tubing bottomhole assemblies. The fourth industrial revolution is taking the oil and gas business by storm. Many companies have increased resources for big-data analytics and machine learning. Though no one sees physical oilfield services as in decline, development in these areas may take a back seat to artificial intelligence. This paper covers the staged field-development methodology, including analysis and evaluation of various development concepts, that enabled the company to optimize both completion design and artificial-lift selection, reducing downtime and lowering operating costs by nearly 50%.
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait resumed production at the joint Wafra and Khafji oil field in the Neutral Zone between the two countries on 1 July. The production also comes as both countries’ additional OPEC+ cuts ended in June. The Kuwait Oil Ministry said on Twitter the production in the Khafji joint field began again after a month-long hiatus based on the operational plans between the two parties. The restart was also in line with plans announced in June by Saudi Arabia Chevron, which jointly operates the Wafra field with Kuwait Gulf Oil Co. Both countries agreed in December 2019 to begin production at the oil fields after being offline since 2015 because of an operational dispute.
Duri Field in Indonesia is the largest active steamflood project in the world. The field produces 73,000 BOPD, and 10,000 optimization jobs are executed annually to support base production. The objective of this study was to look at factors that can affect a temperature log and steps that can be taken to improve temperature-measurement accuracy. This paper covers the staged field-development methodology, including analysis and evaluation of various development concepts, that enabled the company to optimize both completion design and artificial-lift selection, reducing downtime and lowering operating costs by nearly 50%. What the industry needs at this stage is a willingness to work together, share best practices, conduct innovative research, and focus on disruptive technologies that lower cost of capture and make our operations more sustainable. The complete paper presents a large-scale work flow designed to take a vast amount of data into consideration. The work flow can be scaled for projects of any size, depending on the data available. Denbury Resources needs enhanced debt reduction. The company that does enhanced oil recovery using carbon dioxide it produces and transports has skipped a payment to creditors while it seeks a deal that would reduce its debts.
Askeladd Vest is Phase 2 of the Snøhvit gas development, which is expected to see an FID this year. The drop in US LNG exports comes amid a combination of weak demand, ample supply, additional capacity coming on line, and flexibility to cancel US cargoes. A recovery in the energy industry is key to the oilfield water sector in the Permian. But the industry must address issues such as further research, regulatory changes, and technology. Poland state officials said the terminal expansion is crucial to strengthening the country’s energy security by increasing its capacity to receive LNG and gas from European countries and decreasing its dependence on Russia.
