Most crude exports coming out of the North Sea since March have been destined for Asia, where floating storage levels remain high. The drop in US LNG exports comes amid a combination of weak demand, ample supply, additional capacity coming on line, and flexibility to cancel US cargoes. The offshore export terminal, capable of accommodating very large crude carriers, could provide access to international markets in Asia and Europe—and higher prices—for Permian, Cushing, and Eagle Ford crude oil.
Both platforms offshore assets were shut in following a leak in ExxonMobil's 100,000 B/D pipeline system. Qatar Petroleum will delay its North Field LNG expansion in Qatar with startup in 2025. Its Golden Pass project in Texas remains on track. The startup of the deepwater field marks the beginning of production from the massive Stabroek Block, which contains an estimated 6 billion BOE. ExxonMobil estimates that at least 5 FPSOs will be producing more than 750,000 BOPD from the Stabroek Block by 2025.

An offshore survey identified a decrease in focusing on cost cutting and an increase in preparing to expand operations. With the oil prices above $60/bbl the impetus for negotiation for lower prices by companies and service providers appears to be waning. Global trade for LNG is projected to rise by 50% by 2020. There is a clear acceleration in demand for small- and medium-scale LNG, necessitating splitting of LNG into smaller load parcels. Transfer methods applicable to deeper water, smaller LNG carriers, and harsh environments are critical.

Poland’s PGNiG is calling for contractors for an LNG terminal expansion and construction of an additional jetty.
China Energy Reserve and Chemicals Group is exploring the possibility of importing LNG from the US via ISO containers loaded from the West Coast. Japan is bringing its nuclear reactors back on line following the suspension of operations at all reactors after the 2011 Fukushima accident. As the reactors return to full operation, the increase in nuclear generation is likely to displace generation from fossil sources, in particular natural gas.

Canada’s investment includes $160 million to fund energy-efficient turbines, which the government says will minimize greenhouse gas emissions. As natural gas pipeline systems have grown larger and more complex, the importance of optimization of design and operation of pipelines has increased. This paper examines the optimization issue for the Egyptian gas transmission pipeline network. Paradoxical effects can exist when expanding the capacity of natural-gas-transportation networks. This paper derives conditions where it can be expected, how the effect can be masked, and provide analysis to support identification in larger-scale networks. The present work describes the development of a 1D steady-state isothermal reservoir/surface gas-pipeline-network model.
