Finite Difference modeling provides valuable insights for planning seismic acquisition and understanding challenges with seismic imaging. In this Trinidad modeling study, we are interested in studying thinly-bedded geology, and its impacts on the seismic image and attributes. We first built a 3D high-resolution volume of shale (Vshale) model with random stratigraphy constrained by well log statistics. Realistic rock properties were generated as a function of sand, shale, and fluid saturation and were embedded in this stratigraphic model. With this geological model, we generated 2D/3D synthetic data that can be used for both seismic imaging and reservoir characterization. We conducted preliminary analysis with this synthetic data, and the results helped us to understand some of the challenges and to identify imaging issues we commonly face in offshore Trinidad data.
