ABSTRACT: Highways access have a major influence on transportation on the Java Island as a measure of time efficiency and freeway access. As an effort to achieve efficiency of time for travel between regions, the West Java government undertakes the 60 km Cisumdawu highway construction as the part of the Trans Java toll road, which connects Cileunyi, Sumedang, and Dawuan highway access. Unfortunately, the construction of Cisumdawu Highway is passing through the Baribis Fault areas which could cause harm during and after construction. The study of mass movement is needed for a mitigation action in this area. This research uses studio methods that analyze topographic maps, morphometric maps, satellite imagery, geological maps, maps of disaster-prone areas, and supported by the development of geographic data of Cisumdawu highway. The result shows risk analysis table of Cisumdawu Highway which indicates low, medium, and high levels of landslides potential.
1 INTRODUCTION West Java is one of the provinces with diverse landscapes. As one of the vital areas in national development, it requires good transportation access through the construction of the Cisumdawu Highways. The highway is located in the Sumedang District 60.28 kilometers long stretching from Cileunyi, Sumedang and Dawuan (see Fig. 1). The highway has a length of 60.28 kilometers, divided into six sections namely Section 1 Cileunyi-Tanjungsari that has a length of 12.025 km; Section 2 Tanjungsari-Sumedang that is 17.15 km long; Section 3 Sumedang-Cimalaka that is 3.75 km long; Section 4 Cimalaka-Legok that is 7.2 km long; Section 5 Legok-Ujung Jaya Throughout 15.9 km; and Section 5 Ujung Jaya-Kertajati Through-out the 4,048 km long. This highway crosses the southern mountainous areas that are very steep and have diverse geological characteristics, so that the highway is very interesting to study in anticipation of the landslide.
1.1 Background Landslide hazards have become a threat inside a highway construction and for the people who live around it. Construction of the highways is located in areas affected by Baribis Fault and dominated by sedimentary rocks and volcanic rocks. In addition, the construction area is surrounded by the mountain range with a very steep slope. For example, when a landslide occurs, it can cause operational disruption in the highway, cause damage to infrastructure and threat the surrounding settlements. So to make people nearby aware of the hazard of landslides, we must build risk levels design analysis of landslide around Cisumdawu highway.
1.2 Problem The construction of Cisumdawu highway is passing through the Baribis Fault areas, and also surrounded by mountains namely Mt. Manglayang in the north of Cileunyi, Mt. Geulis in the south of Cileunyi and Tampomas Mountain in the north of Sumedang that causes the slope in the area that is very steep. The mass movement in the areas that are passed through by Cisumdawu highway Road also has mid-high level of mass movement. All of these factors can cause landslides especially if there is a heavy rainfall. The landslide could damage the facility, disrupt traffic activity, and even casualties.
