North Dakota
SEG Tanta University Student Chapter aims to reduce the gap between theoretical study at college and field of work by providing the latest updates of geosciences through various chapter activities such as workshops, field trips, lectures, and distinguished instructor short course. The chapter was founded in February 2019 and launched in September 2019. We celebrated the opening of the chapter every year at the same time by designing a training course in the field of geoscience which lasted for a week. SEG Tanta University Chapter was one of the main organizers of SEG Field Camp 2022 with Alex University and AL-Azher chapters. We also won the award for the best entertainment content presented in the entire festival. Some of our special members such as the president, vice president and the head of the Public Relations Committee had gone to Agiba Petroleum Company to attend the SEG Al-Azhar University at Cairo Student Chapter opening to congratulate and support them, in addition to collaborating with them to perform mutual activities.

The SEG Student Chapter at Oklahoma State University is devoted to promoting education in applied geophysics. Each year, SEG participates in SEG Field Camp and the SEG Challenge bowl, and leads several field excursions to provide students with hands-on experiences in data acquisition. Jeffrey Shragge is a Professor in the Geophysics Department at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM), and is a co-Director of the Center of Wave Phenomena, a long-standing industrial research consortium at CSM. His PhD thesis at Stanford was on wave-equation migration in generalized coordinate systems and his publications include papers on a wide range of topics including seismic modeling, seismic imaging, inversion, teleseismic analysis, GPR, geo-archaeology, and geochemistry. He has published over 60 papers in prestigious journals such as Geophysics, BSSA, JGR, and co-authored over 100 Expanded Abstracts at international meetings. In recent years, Jeff has served the SEG as Chair of the Committee for Student and Early Career Programs (CUSP; 2015-18), the Chair of the Travel Grants Committee (2015-16), the Chair of the Field Camps Committee (2017-18), the SEG Volunteer Liaison for Student Programming, and has served as an Associate Editor (2009-13), Assistant Editor (2013-2019), and Editor-in-Chief (2020-21) for Geophysics. He is currently the VP (Publications) on the SEG Board of Directors.

The SEG Foundation Field Camp program is intended to advance geophysics today and inspire geoscientists for tomorrow by providing critical funding for projects that further professional development, student support, and youth outreach goals of the SEG Foundation. Applicants from around the world are encouraged to apply.

The cooperation between the Student Chapters Student Geoscientific Society Berlin & Potsdam and the Institute of Applied Physics Geophysical Society is one of the results of the 4th International Geosciences Student Conference 2013 in Berlin. This event brought many students from all over the world together and initialized the idea of organizing a SEG Joint Field Camp by the SEG Student Chapters from Berlin and Nizhny Novgorod. Beside the project leads Lennart Brรผning and Andrey Konkov, who established the cooperation four more students were involved in pre-organising the Field Camp. One important issue was to figure out an appropriate research target. Therefore contacts to local archaeologists from the Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod (UNN) have been made.

The Institute of Applied Physics Geophysical Society (SEG Student Chapter located in Nizhny Novgorod) is one of the most active and developing student geophysical organizations in the World. It is based on the Geophysical Acoustics Department of the Institute of Applied Physics. Its faculty advisor, Dr. Andrey Lebedev is the Head of Laboratory. The Chapter consists of students from both the Institute of Applied Physics and Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod. One of the key fundamentals of the Chapter's development plan is the continuous involvement in new and challenging projects of big social value such as the organization of the 5th International Geosciences Student Conference (it was an unique experience for Russia) or Field Camp 2014 (from the point of view of attracting attention from federal and local governments on contemporary problems in archaeology and its rich cultural heritage).

Bruce S. Hart is an Adjunct Professor in the Sciences Department at Western University, London, Ontario Canada. He was previously a research scientist with Statoil/Equinor studying shale and other types of unconventional reservoirs (Vaca Muerta, Eagle Ford, Bakken, Marcellus, etc.) to enhance exploration and development efforts. Prior to joining Statoil, Hart held a similar position with ConocoPhillips. Prior to that, he was a Tenured Professor in the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department at McGill University, and held research/teaching positions at New Mexico Tech, Penn State and the Geological Survey of Canada. He toured as the 2017 AAPG/SEG Distinguished Lecturer, the 2009 SEG Distinguished Lecturer, and as a Guest Lecturer for the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists in 2006. He has authored or coauthored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications (three of which have won Best Paper awards) on shales, seismic attributes, clastic sedimentology, fractured reservoirs, pore-pressure prediction, sequence stratigraphy, and other topics.

Comparative Analysis Between Empirical Correlations and Time Series Models for the Prediction and Forecasting of Unconventional Bakken Wells Production

Abstract Accurately forecasting oil and gas well production, especially in complex unconventional reservoirs, is vital. Leveraging advanced techniques like machine learning and deep learning is becoming more common due to ample historical data availability. While traditional methods work for conventional reservoirs, they struggle in unconventional scenarios. Modern machine and deep learning models excel in such challenges, offering insights while bypassing temporary disruptions or pressure issues. This study compares ten empirical production forecast models with state-of-the-art deep learning and time series models (ARIMA, LSTM, GRU) in the Bakken shale play of the Williston Basin. After thorough calibration using extensive data, model efficacy is assessed using R-score and MSE. Results highlight well-specific performance, with no single model consistently outperforming across all wells. Notably, optimally adjusted ARIMA produced commendable results for many wells. This research aids reservoir engineers by simplifying production decline trend identification, reducing reliance on intricate decline curve analyses. It ushers in a streamlined and dependable paradigm for production forecasting.

The North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC) has answered the workforce shortage problem through its creation of the Bakken Global Recruitment of Oilfield Workers (GROW) initiative. GROW seeks to bring new workers to the Bakken region to train and work in the oil and gas field. The initiative began recruiting Ukrainian immigrants displaced during Russia's invasion of the country. A total of 25 Ukrainians have found work through the GROW program supported by the US federal government's Uniting for Ukraine program. The program, announced in 2022, "provides a pathway for Ukrainian citizens and their immediate family members who are outside the US to come to the US and stay temporarily in a 2-year period of parole," according to the US Citizen and Immigration Services website.
