Africa (Sub-Sahara) The drillship Ocean Rig Athena is preparing to drill appraisal and exploration wells offshore Senegal for a joint venture (JV) led by Cairn Energy. Two wells will appraise the SNE discovery, which was ranked by IHS CERA as the world's largest for oil last year. An exploration well will also be drilled in the Bellatrix prospect, for which mapping has indicated a potential 168 million bbl of oil resources. Cairn holds a 40% interest in the JV, with remaining interests held by ConocoPhillips (35%), FAR (15%), and Petrosen (10%). The Ksiri West-A exploration well drilled by Circle Oil on the Sebou permit onshore Morocco has flowed gas at a rate of 8 MMcf/D following tests. It is being readied for production.
OMV has discovered natural gas and condensate at well 6506/11-10 in License PL 644B offshore Norway. The company-operated well targeted the Cretaceous Hades prospect and the Jurassic Iris prospect directly beneath it. The preliminary results showed a discovery of 20 million to 115 million recoverable BOE for Hades and 20 million to 130 million recoverable BOE for Iris with "very good" reservoir properties, OMV said. The project venturers are reviewing the discovery data to decide upon potential appraisal drilling. OMV has a 30% working interest in License PL 644/644B, with other interests held by Statoil (30%), Faroe Petroleum (20%), and Spirit Energy (20%).
Africa (Sub-Sahara) Eni announced an oil discovery in Block 15/06 offshore Angola in the Kalimba exploration prospect that is estimated to contain between 230 and 300 million bbl of light oil in place. The Kalimba-1 NFW well, which led to the discovery, is located approximately 150 km off the coast. The well was drilled in a depth of 458 m and reached a total depth of 1901 m. The data acquired in the well indicate a production capacity in excess of 5,000 B/D. The discovery creates opportunities for exploration in the southern part of Block 15/06, so far considered mainly gas-prone. The joint venture, with stakes held by Eni (operator, 36.8421%), Sonangol (36.8421%), and SSI Fifteen Limited (26.3158%), will work to appraise the updip of the discovery and will begin studies to fast-track its development.

The basic objective of this course is to introduce the overview and concept of production optimisation, using nodal analysis as a tool in production optimisation and enhancement. The participants are exposed to the analysis of various elements that help in production system starting from reservoir to surface processing facilities and their effect on the performance of the total production system. Depth conversion of time interpretations is a basic skill set for interpreters. There is no single methodology that is optimal for all cases. Next, appropriate depth methods will be presented. Depth imaging should be considered an integral component of interpretation. If the results derived from depth imaging are intended to mitigate risk, the interpreter must actively guide the process.
In spite of massive investments in project management best practices and the organizations to implement them, major oil and gas projects continue to experience cost overruns and schedule delays. A root cause that has not been sufficiently explored is the built-in bias toward overconfidence. Bridging the gap between facilities and reservoir engineers is critical in designing systems that are flexible enough to allow a spectrum of reservoir feed conditions to be accommodated over the life cycle of the field. While subsurface uncertainties can't be eliminated, they can be managed.
