As the energy transition becomes more and more crucial to our everyday lives, it is important to create an open dialog connecting the oil and gas industry with policymakers. The Oil and Natural Gas Technology Symposium: Focus on Sustainability, held virtually on 6–7 April 2021, created an opportunity for this open dialog. This event was collaboratively developed by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG). The purpose of this program was to share innovations that improve efficiency, sustainability, reduce environmental impact, and enhance recovery. Additionally, the speakers addressed the role of oil and natural gas in the coming energy transition.

The 2007 BP TTI Velocity-Analysis Benchmark dataset was created by Hemang Shah and provided courtesy of BP Exploration Operation Company Limited ("BP"). It was originally used at the velocity-analysis workshop at the 2010 EAGE meeting in Barcelona, Spain. The unaltered data is redistributed following the terms of use described later on this wiki page. This model was created by Frederic Billette and Sverre Brandsberg-Dahl as a blind test for the Velocity workshop at the 66th EAGE international meeting in Paris, France, in June 2004. The left side of the model is based on a geological cross section through the Western Gulf of Mexico. The central part the model is a simplified representation of geologic features in the Eastern/Central Gulf of Mexico and off-shore Angola. The right side of the model is a composite representation of velocity issues encountered in the Caspian Sea, North Sea or Trinidad. The model is popular for benchmarking prestack depth migration, especially reverse time migration.
