In particular, imaging hydraulic fracture growth In this paper we describe a number of fundamental seismic during well stimulation operations has become a attributes that can be determined from passive seismic commercially viable service in the last few years (Figure borehole recordings. Passive data can be used to determine 1). Generally, such imaging services focus on the not only direct images of reservoir fracturing, but also hypocentral location of microseismic activity to monitor background borehole noise characteristics, velocity model the reservoir. However, as a'by-product' of the processing details including lateral variations and anisotropic of passive data is a number of attributes that may be of characteristics, seismic attenuation, hodogram response and interest to a broader borehole seismic community. The frequency response, to name a few.
Summary Passive seismic imaging of reservoir deformation is potentially a powerful technique to monitor a number of reservoir operations, including injections for enhanced recovery. In this paper, we describe two case studies and compare the seismic deformation associated with gas injection in a East Texas field and steam injection in a Western Canada field. The comparison shows that more seismic deformation occurs in the East Texas field, compared to the steam injection or that reported in the literature for two compacting North Sea reservoirs, which bodes well for broader application of the passive monitoring in other fields. Introduction Reservoir imaging of injections associated with enhanced recovery is critical to properly engineer the injection and optimize reservoir drainage.
