Summary State-of-the-art forward modeling algorithms and sophisticated visualization techniques enable us to gain more insight into the complex behavior of electromagnetic (EM) field propagation through space and time. Recent improvements in hardware and software facilitate visualization of EM fields in such a fast and convenient way that it can almost routinely be applied in survey design. To demonstrate this, we used forward modeling algorithms based on integral equation and finite-difference time-domain techniques to compute the responses for different earth models. For basic 1-D earth models and more complicated 3-D models we used a grid of receivers to produce snap shots of the EM fields in time. These snap shots in time are then displayed as movies which show how the fields evolve in space and time.
