In the heart of Brunei's energy landscape, two exceptional Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) members, Soazig Leveque and Kamilah Othman, are leaving a significant mark on the industry through their involvement in the Energy4me energy education program. Soazig, the Global Geosteering Team Leader for SLB, and Kamilah, a Petrophysicist at Brunei Shell Petroleum, are passionate about educating the younger generation on the vital role of energy across the globe. Learn how Soazig and Kamilah are shaping the energy industry. The city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, played host to the fourth edition of the SPE Symposium: CCUS Management in Kuala Lumpur from 7โ8 November, marking a pivotal moment in the quest for innovative strategies and initiatives to propel the deployment of CCUS projects in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. With more than 300 attendees representing 21 countries, the symposium provided a platform for groundbreaking discussions, fostering collaboration and setting the stage for the region's significant growth in CCUS technologies.
The US Advisory Council (USAC) has the responsibility of providing critical strategic guidance from regional members to localize technical content and identify regional needs to be addressed in the events organized by SPE while supporting related initiatives to aid SPE's mission of technology and knowledge transfer. To guide, recommend, and provide feedback for topic generation for conferences, symposia, workshops, forums, training courses, and identify technical gaps relevant and in-demand in the region. To improve and encourage volunteerism amongst members through guidance and mentorship for new program chairs and committee members. To advise on ways to improve technical quality for all SPE Americas events. To actively support SPE activities in the region.

Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia) 2024 officially launched in Kuala Lumpur with more than 20,000 attendees, sponsors, exhibitors, and students registered from over 75 countries. This year marks a significant milestone, with OTC Asia celebrating 10 years since its inception in 2014. Hosted by Petronas, OTC Asia 2024 builds upon its legacy of excellence and innovation to deliver an immersive experience that showcases cutting-edge technologies, fosters collaboration, and drives meaningful discussions around key opportunities and challenges facing the offshore energy sector. In his keynote address at the opening ceremony, President and Group CEO of Petronas Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik said, "Asia continues its firm commitment to be part of the solution in the energy transition. For us to realize this common goal, national oil companies; oil, gas, and energy majors; OGSE players; financiers; technology solutions providers; and policymakers must work together to spur novel ideas, explore new frontier technologies, and ultimately forge partnerships to decarbonize the energy value chain towards realizing a just, orderly, and equitable energy transition."

Seismic Soundoff ยท 215: Strengthening Diversity in the Geosciences w/ Dr. Isaac Crumbly "I've learned much more from my mistakes than I ever learned from my successes, because it was my mistakes that helped me to have successes." Meet the man behind the mission to diversify the energy sector. Dr. Isaac Crumbly shares the journey of the Cooperative Developmental Energy Program (CDEP) at Fort Valley State University, a program designed to pave the way for African American students into the energy industry. As he shares his vision, Dr. Crumbly challenges the geophysics community to embrace the perspectives of minority individuals and support the journey toward a more inclusive industry.

Faculty Advisors for an SEG Student Chapter are uniquely poised to help students contribute to the field of geophysics and derive the maximum benefit from their SEG student chapter. Faculty Advisors serve as the liaison between SEG and the Student Chapter. Choosing a Faculty Advisor (and/or Co-advisor) who is committed to helping and maintaining a Student Chapter will ensure the continuity of a Student Chapter. The success (or failure) of a Student Chapter is often related to the participation (or lack of) of the Faculty Advisor. Even the most energetic Student Chapter President needs the support and encouragement of a Faculty Advisor.

In the country's busiest oil field, hydraulic fracturing is devouring nearly as much electricity as four Seattles every day--and they are clamoring for more. Diamondback Energy, a major producer in the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico, has increasingly relied on the electric grid to power its crude harvesting. But as the driller's oil production has grown nearly 50 times in the past 10 years, the grid has struggled to handle this new demand, prompting Diamondback to set up its own power network to cut its use of natural-gas-fired generators. "The grid has to catch up with the industrials and what's going on here," said Hunter Landers, the company's vice president of completions. As drillers have faced investor and public pressure to cut greenhouse-gas emissions, they have ditched polluting diesel-power generators and plugged into the grid at breakneck speed.
