A Technical Section represents a grouping of global members who share an interest in a specific technical topic. These communities of SPE members share ideas, promote competence, and develop projects related to their technical interest. Technical Sections tend to be more task-oriented than discussion-oriented. They meet virtually for the most part, but are encouraged to hold a face-to-face meeting at least once a year. The Technical Sections Operations Manual (TSOM) is your go-to source for information about how to conduct your technical section activities. You can learn about your individual role and find the forms and deadlines associated with your duties. Questions may be directed to your staff liaison, or to firstname.lastname@example.org.

All sections are required to appoint a minimum of 3 of these core officers in order to remain compliant. Additionally, a Student Chapter Liaison position is required if the section sponsors one or more SPE student chapters. The student chapter liaison must be a professional member of the section who helps connect the students to the industry. This officer is critical, as they are passionate and dedicated to guiding the chapter with all aspects of operations. They are in frequent contact and work closely with the faculty advisors and chapter officers.
The PetroWiki Steering Committee has the responsibility of guiding the SPE community to further develop and enhance the content in PetroWiki. Ideally, the committee should have representation from industry and academia, a variety of SPE regions, and all technical disciplines.
This committee provides expert review and approves recommendation/proposals for new book projects while working to ensure adequate coverage of technical topics. This committee comprises a variable number of members who each serve 3-year terms. Ideally, the committee should have representation from industry and academia, service and operating companies, majors and independents, a variety of SPE regions, and all 6 technical disciplines. On behalf of the Executive and Programme Committees, I am pleased to welcome you to the SPE Conference at the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show which will be held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman from 13-15 September 2021 at the landmark Oman Convention & Exhibition Center. The theme of the conference is, ‘Shaping the Future of the Energy Industry’, where a diverse mix of professionals and decision-makers from around the globe will meet to weigh in with their expert opinions on future advances, challenges and trends in the oil and gas industry. The industry has demonstrated resilience to the repeated cycles of low oil prices by transforming itself efficiently, and innovatively in addressing related challenges to grow sustainably. However, it is not clear how such repeated transformation cycles will shape the future of the industry. Building on the success of this conference in the area of EOR, the 2021 conference will expand to include other focus areas in Oman and the region, such as IOR, Gas and LNG as well as Offshore and Marine.
