Gender diversity and inclusion in the oil and gas industry has been widely promoted in the last decade to advance women in leadership roles. Following this, the SPE Java Section launched an initiative to encourage and empower women in the industry. The section held a webinar in November, which was moderated by Niesharsa Triaswari from BP Indonesia. In the webinar four high-profile women discussed and shared their leadership and experience in the oil and industry: Shauna Noonan, 2020 SPE president and director of artificial lift engineering at Oxy; Evita H. Legowo, general director of Oil and Gas Government of Indonesia (2008-2012) and professor at Swiss German University; Melanie Cook, president of ExxonMobil Indonesia; and Dian Andyasuri, president of Shell Indonesia. The opening session was led by Shauna Noonan, who shared her experience and first steps in the industry when she first came to Indonesia working for Chevron.

This course is designed to equip the attendees with the process, practice, and tools to optimize value during the field life. It will utilize a variety of proven adult learning techniques to ensure maximum understanding, comprehension, and retention of the information presented including Interactive Dialogue, Class Exercises, Working in Teams, Simulating real-life meetings with the Operator, Partners and the Government, and a healthy dose of the art of Negotiation. An Oil or Gas field is born following successful exploration and appraisal of the discovery. Following the discovery, it is managed in some Companies by multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs), and in others, by various technical disciplines as needed, each taking responsibility for their piece only. Without single point accountability for the field and an explicit focus on value optimization, in this latter approach, there can be a significant loss in value during the life of the field.

For many E&P professionals, developing the expertise to successfully move into and perform in a leadership role is difficult. The technical skills that got you the job aren’t the same skills you need to move up, particularly in a constantly transforming world. Making sense of our VUCA world is becoming ever more important. The Society of Petroleum Engineers has partnered with CEDEP, the first international executive education club, to host this 3 day intensive workshop giving attendees the skills and confidence to push their career and companies forward. Attendees will join an elite group to reflect, develop and hone skills to give them the advantage in leadership positions.
