While you may have attended one or many industry conferences, symposiums, and workshops, have you ever considered the planning that happens behind the scenes of these events? A few strategies that can help to make your coworkers understand the urgency of your deadlines. Pervasive thinking blocks all of your triumphs and narrows your vision, so that all you can see is a core trigger. How do you turn the thought from becoming an unsolvable problem and approach it as a problem-solution statement? SPE HSSE-SR Technical Director Trey Shaffer shares an interesting story on how collaboration led to an amazing science discovery. In the current complex information age, while organizational ranks and tiers will still be required, a rigid hierarchy and absolute centralized decision making slows down execution and stifles adaptation in teams.
I have been approached by a non-SPE magazine about publishing a version of my SPE meeting paper. I would like to agree. What do I need to do to obtain permission from SPE? Whether they plan to publish a shortened version or the full paper, the process is the same. If your paper is currently being peer-reviewed by any SPE journal, you can contact firstname.lastname@example.org You should then locate the paper in OnePetro and follow the link "Rights & Permission".
SPE policy requires that SPE hold copyright to all copyrightable material in its publications, including conference proceedings, and to the individual contributions contained therein, to protect the interests of SPE, authors and their employers, and at the same time, to facilitate the appropriate re-use of this material by others. SPE distributes its publications throughout the world and does so by various print and electronic means. SPE also may translate or authorize translation of its publications, and articles contained therein, for inclusion in various publications. Transfer of copyright to SPE is a requirement for publication, including publication in conference proceedings, with the exception of material that is in the public domain (i.e., is not subject to copyright). Publications are critical in SPE's mission to collect and disseminate knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies, for the public benefit; and to help industry professionals enhance their technical and professional competence.

No paper can be presented at an SPE conference unless a signed copy transferring copyright is received by SPE before the manuscript due date. If you are employed and prepared this paper within the scope of your employment, the original copyright to the paper belongs to your employer. SPE’s Annual Caspian Technical Conference is going Virtual! SPE’s Annual Caspian Technical Conference is going Virtual! Every industry faces pressure to transform and remain competitive. These pressures may take the form of economic factors (low oil price, overcrowded market, low demand, inefficiencies) and others may include unusual or once in a lifetime occurrences, such as the current global pandemic. With increased competition, we must look for ways to differentiate our products and services. The good news is that tough competition is one of the best motivations to innovate which in turn has a positive effect of allowing us to produce more and offer lower prices. During these challenging times it has never been more important to keep the Caspian oil and gas industry connected.
The Distinguished Lecturer Program is one of SPE's most popular programs. Each season 30 to 35 experts from the oil and gas industry are selected to share their knowledge on the latest technologies and trends with SPE members. Established in 1961 with just three lecturers, the esteemed program now sends Distinguished Lecturers to SPE sections three times a year to give a total of more than 550 lectures all over the world. The purpose of the program is to provide SPE sections with outstanding speakers for section meetings, and to recognize the professional contributions of the selected Distinguished Lecturers. The program promotes SPE's mission to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge.
