The burgeoning population of millennials in oil and gas and diversified, global workforce means more engagement with social media will be necessary. There is a lot of misinformation in the public about the oil and gas industry. As professionals of the industry, it is our duty to understand the gaps, educate ourselves, and then help spread accurate information.
The program gives SPE members a way to contribute to the E&P industry by sharing industry insights and practical career advice with young professionals, or by helping university students with academic and career direction. The Regional Young Member Outstanding Service Award recognizes contributions and leadership to the public, the community, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the petroleum engineering profession within the region. Must be a paid, professional member and younger than 36. Must be residing in region for at least the most recent 12 months prior to award. Note: The region is determined by the section the nominee belongs to. Must not have served as an officer or director of the SPE International Board of Directors within 12 months of award.
Impact of Sanction Laws SPE must comply with all applicable sanction laws, including those of the US and European Union which prohibit personnel and nationals of certain countries (including the US) living abroad, from providing or assisting in the provision of certain services to individuals “ordinarily resident in” an embargoed or sanctioned country1. For example, under US law, SPE may provide to members residing in embargoed or sanctioned countries only those membership benefits related to information or informational materials or that are otherwise authorized under applicable sanction laws, including regulations administered by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”), licenses, and interpretations issued pursuant thereto. The list below indicates which membership benefits are permitted under, versus those benefits which SPE may not offer in order to comply with, applicable sanction laws. There are a number of services/benefits that may be provided to SPE members in countries sanctioned by the US and/or the EU (e.g., Iran, Cuba, North Korea and Syria) because these activities relate to the provision of informational materials and thus are not limited by applicable US and/or EU sanction laws. The industry is becoming increasingly complex, leading to changes in how universities approach education for undergraduate study. After a spike in enrollment in 2017, a significant downturn is projected. Speaking on the final day of ATCE 2019 in her home province of Alberta, Shauna Noonan unveiled the theme of her 2020 SPE presidency, “SPE Strong: Strengthen the Core.” Many leaders of petroleum engineering schools from around the world have never met but SPE’s technical director for academia would like to change that. The world’s largest oil company says it has doubled the number of women working for it in the last decade and is spearheading a number of initiatives to grow the trend.
